Smart Lock Installation in Brixton
Want keyless entry in Brixton? We install smart locks — keypad, app-controlled and fob-operated — on suitable wooden and uPVC doors. Not every door suits one, so we assess yours first and say plainly if a high-security mechanical lock is the better choice. Call 07984 547185 for honest advice.
Smart locks replace the key with a code, a phone or a fob. For households juggling cleaners, dog walkers and teenagers, or landlords managing access between tenancies, that convenience is real. But a smart lock is only as good as its fitting and its fallback — a flat battery at midnight with no mechanical override is a lockout waiting to happen.
We fit keypad and app-controlled locks from the established categories — no obscure imports, nothing we would not service afterwards. And we will talk you out of one if your door, your insurance or your habits make a mechanical lock the smarter buy.

Types of smart lock we install
The market splits into a few clear categories:
- Keypad deadbolts — code entry, no phone needed, ideal for shared households
- App-controlled locks — phone as key, temporary codes for guests and tradespeople
- Fob and card operated — simple tap entry, popular with HMOs and small offices
- Retrofit smart cylinders — keep the existing door furniture, add electronic control inside
When a smart lock is the wrong choice
Honesty matters more here than anywhere, because the wrong smart lock is worse than a good mechanical one. We advise against smart locks where the door is warped or ill-fitting, where there is no reliable mechanical override, or where your insurer specifically requires a BS3621 mortice — some policies do, and a smart lock alone may not satisfy them.
Battery discipline is the other reality check. If you will not change batteries on schedule, choose a model with a long-life cell and an external emergency power option, or stay mechanical. We would rather fit the right lock once than rescue you from the wrong one at 2am.
What installation involves
First the door is assessed: thickness, material, existing lock positions and how squarely it meets the frame. Then the lock type is matched to the door — not the other way round. Fitting, commissioning, code setup and a full handover where you operate everything yourself before we leave.
We also set up the fallback with you: spare mechanical key location, battery change routine, and what to do if the electronics ever fail. A smart lock without a plan B is not a finished job.
Frequently asked questions
Are smart locks secure?
A well-fitted smart lock from an established maker is secure against normal attack, and the audit trail of who entered when is a genuine advantage. But no lock is magic: the door, the frame and the fitting matter as much as the electronics. We assess all three before recommending one.
What happens if the battery dies?
That is the question to ask before buying, not after. We only fit models with a mechanical override or external emergency power, and we set up the battery routine with you at handover. A smart lock with no fallback is a lockout waiting to happen.
Will my home insurer accept a smart lock?
Some insurers specify BS3621 mortice locks on final exit doors, and a smart lock alone may not meet that wording. Check your policy before committing — we will read the requirement with you and recommend a setup that satisfies it.
Can you fit a smart lock on a uPVC door?
Sometimes. It depends on the multipoint system and the door profile. We assess the door first and give a straight yes or no — some uPVC doors take a smart cylinder neatly, others are better served by their existing multipoint with an upgraded cylinder.
Do you install a specific brand I have bought online?
We fit locks from the established categories we can stand behind and service afterwards. If you have already bought one, ring 07984 547185 with the model and we will tell you honestly whether we will fit it.
