Kennington sits just north of our Brixton heartland, running from the Oval up Kennington Road toward Elephant and Castle. The Oval cricket ground anchors the area, Kennington Park gives it green space, and the Imperial War Museum stands at the northern edge. The housing is handsome and old: Victorian terraces, mansion flats and period conversions, many of them listed or in conservation areas.
Period property means period locks — and period lock problems. Original timber doors with mortice locks that have served for a century, communal entrances on mansion blocks, and mews houses tucked behind the main streets. We carry the traditional lock range alongside modern cylinders, because Kennington needs both.

Kennington Road, the Oval and Kennington Park
Kennington Road is the spine — the A23 running north from Brixton through the Oval junction toward the river. Around it, the streets of Victorian terraces hold a dense mix of owner-occupied houses, flat conversions and mansion blocks. The Oval brings match-day crowds and a ring of pubs, hotels and mansion flats that all need locksmith cover.
Kennington Park Road and the streets around the park are quieter residential territory: family houses, garden squares and the occasional embassy residence. Lock work here is domestic and careful — high-value homes with original features that deserve a locksmith who fits locks without butchering period doors.
Period doors and their locks
A Victorian panelled door with its original rim lock and mortice deserves better than a drilled cylinder and a uPVC handle. We repair and replace traditional locks sympathetically: BS3621 mortice locks that meet insurance requirements while suiting the door, nightlatches serviced rather than swapped, and cylinders chosen to match existing key systems.
Conservation-area rules can restrict visible changes to front doors, so we work with what the door allows. If a full modern multipoint is not appropriate, a well-chosen mortice plus a quality nightlatch gives genuine security without altering the door's character.

Frequently asked questions
My Victorian front door has its original locks. Should I replace them?
Not necessarily. Sound mortice locks can be serviced, and a BS3621-rated mortice on a timber door meets most insurance requirements. We assess what you have and recommend honestly — repair where it is safe, replace where it is not. Call 07984 547185.
Do you cover the streets around the Oval on match days?
Yes. Match days change the traffic, not our coverage. We are open 24 hours and will give you a straight answer on timing for your street when you ring.
Can you work on listed-building doors without damaging them?
Yes. We fit and repair locks sympathetically on period doors — no unnecessary drilling, no modern furniture forced onto Victorian timber. If a job genuinely needs a modern solution, we explain why before touching the door.
Is Kennington inside your normal coverage area?
Yes. Kennington SE11 — Kennington Road, the Oval, Kennington Park and the surrounding streets — is part of our regular patch north of Brixton. Ring 07984 547185 and we will quote on the call.
Our mansion block entrance lock keeps failing. Can you help?
Yes. Communal entrance locks on mansion blocks take heavy use and fail for everyone at once. We treat them as urgent, carry the common types on the van, and can usually restore security in one visit.
